Lacy Kirk Solomon was born August 31, 1934, to the parents of Reverend Bert Solomon and Mrs. Sealie Ann Solomon. He was brought up in a Christian home with seven other siblings.
He attended the New Salem School in the Shady Grove Community of Gary, Texas. He graduated from Turner High School in Carthage, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Butler College in Tyler, Texas; a Bachelor of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; a Master of Arts degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas; and the Doctor of Ministry from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.
Lacy accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church where he was an active member until moving away to attend college. He started preaching when he was twelve years old.
He married Vera Pearl Tarver in 1959. To this union one son, Jonathan Kirk Solomon, was born.
Reverend Solomon pastored in Texas for seven years, at Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church twelve years and Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church for thirty-one years. He retired in 2008. He served as Baptist Student Union Director twenty-three years at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He participated in community events, was a member of several organizations, and was always willing to help wherever and whenever needed. He was always encouraging the congregation to love one another, and he put emphasis on families working together.
Reverend Solomon was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert Solomon, Jr., and Billy G. Solomon; four sisters, Lizzie Nellie Scott, Mary Fowler Solomon, Johnnie Johnson, and Kathryn Ann Solomon.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Vera Solomon; one son, Jonathan Kirk Solomon (Deborah) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, one granddaughter, Krystal Solomon of McKinney, Texas; four grandsons, Tristan Solomon (Demetria) of Bethlehem, Georgia , Marcus Solomon (Jelisa) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Scott Solomon of Little Rock, Arkansas and Isaiah Solomon of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; six great grandchildren: Ja’Merika Solomon, JJ Solomon, Mia’ Love Solomon, Todd Solomon all of Virginia, Taylor Solomon, Tahj Solomon of Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Johnson of Elm Grove, California and a host of nephews and nieces.
Under the faithful and devoted leadership of Dr. Solomon, several ministers were called, nurtured, and ordained into Christian ministry. Those who were baptized, preached their first sermon, received ministerial training, and were ordained under his leadership include Reverend Maurice Ficklin, Reverend Aaron Johnson, and Reverend Marvin Wiley.
Additionally, ministers who received the call to preach, delivered their first sermon, and were ordained under Dr. Solomon’s leadership include Reverend Alfred Carroll, Reverend William Jarmon, Reverend J. Y. Williams, and the late Reverend Kenneth Harris.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 2704 Commerce Circle, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
The Funeral Service for Dr. Lacy Kirk Solomon will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, January 26, 2026, at Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 Indiana Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery Pine Bluff, AR by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR. His body will lie is state form from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
