For the majority of United States citizens, the best career-foundation options include higher education, enlisting in the military, or learning a skilled trade. Recently, the State of Arkansas has partnered with the US Department of Labor to launch the American Manufacturing Apprenticeship Fund. The purpose of the fund is to support the expansion of advanced manufacturing Registered Apprenticeships across the country.
The $35,800,000 Apprenticeship fund will be managed and operated by the Arkansas Department of Commerce for the next four years. One hundred percent of the funds come from a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor. Employers will receive $3,500 for each new apprentice hired.
This program is part of President Trump’s commitment to revitalize and modernize the American manufacturing workforce with the goal of strengthening the nation’s economy and improve innovation in the industrial sector. Payment to employers will be based on performance related to specific criteria and outcomes.
Over 120 advanced manufacturing occupations are included in the program, including:
- 3D Printing technicians
- Aerospace and defense
- Automotive manufacturing
- Biotechnology
- Machinists
- Millwrights
- Nuclear energy
- Robotics technicians
- Semiconductors
- Sheet metal workers
- Supply chain and automation
All of these industries are considered critical to national competitiveness, economic security, and domestic growth.
