The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Begins

The Salvation Army of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, serving Cleveland, Dallas, Grant, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties, will once again sponsor community Angel Trees. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program helps families with children aged 0–12 by providing Christmas gifts. Last year, many families received Christmas assistance through The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
The Angel Tree began in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1979 as a program of Prison Fellowship Ministries. In 1985, an official Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Prison Fellowship Ministries and The Salvation Army, granting exclusive rights to the “Angel Tree” name. This special program offers individuals the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for someone less fortunate in their community, even if they don’t know them personally. It provides new clothing, shoes, basic needs, and ‘wish list’ items to thousands of children and seniors nationwide who might otherwise receive nothing for Christmas.
