UAPB Baseball: Golden Lions Finish Regular Season Strong in 7-4 Win Over Alabama A&M
HUNTSVILLE, AL – UAPB received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Lions put seven runs on the board and take down the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 7-4 Saturday.
Junior Nate Monceaux got the win out of the bullpen for UAPB. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. UAPB plated two runs off of Alabama A&M pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of freshman Jason Moss.
The Golden Lions then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Bulldogs cut it to 2-1. UAPB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Colin McLemore, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Golden Lions.
Alabama A&M narrowed UAPB’s lead to 3-2 before the Golden Lions stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the sixth inning. The Golden Lions scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Gavin Terry.
UAPB held the Bulldogs scoreless before building on their lead in the eighth inning. The Golden Lions notched two runs off of Alabama A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of senior Jesus Riera, bringing the UAPB advantage to 6-2.
Alabama A&M got within 6-3 until the Golden Lions scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 7-3. UAPB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Dane Small. Alabama A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still held on for the 7-4 win.
