UAPB Men Hoops Extends Winning Streak To Three After Road Victory Against Florida A&M
TALLAHASSEE, FL —The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team got a 34-point performance from the bench on the way to a 67-54 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers on the road Saturday for their third consecutive win. Three consecutive conference wins marks the first time UAPB reached that milestone since 2018.
The Golden Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Kylen Milton, who had 20 points. Shaun Doss Jr. added 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals and A.C. Curry added six points.
“Winning three in a row is showing we’re making progress as a team, said UAPB men’s head basketball coach Solomon Bozeman.” “I’m proud of our guys coming in and getting the road win on the road, because road wins are tough to get in league play. The scary part about us, is that we’re not playing our best basketball yet, but from this season compared to last season we are learning how to finish games.”
UAPB out-rebounded Florida A&M 35-27 in Saturday’s game, paced by Doss Jr.’s eight boards. The Golden Lions also grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
The Golden Lions defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday’s game, forcing 18 Florida A&M turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Doss Jr.’s three steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.
How It Happened
After playing to a 9-9 tie, UAPB went on a 5-0 run with 14:05 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Milton, to take a 14-9 lead. The Golden Lions then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-26 advantage. UAPB did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 32 points close to the basket.
UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 42-34 with 15:21 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 67-54 win. UAPB capitalized on eight Florida A&M turnovers in the period, collecting nine points off those turnovers.
