Expansion plans by the Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs include groundbreaking on a 7,000-square-foot free-standing exhibition hall within a few months.
The Sentinel-Record reported last month that groundbreaking ceremonies are expected in March.
Museum Executive Director Diane LaFollette says the complex should be open on Labor Day weekend.
Hot Springs voters, during a September special election, approved issuing up to $2 million in bonds to pay for the exhibition hall. The Hot Springs Board of Directors on October 30 authorized the private placement of a $1,575,000 bond issue.
The Sentinel-Record reports that as of December 13, 2018, about $1.5 million needed for the project had been secured by the city.
Officials say the museums net fundraising steps will involve contributions to attract traveling exhibits.
