A $50,000 bond was set Monday for a Jefferson County man on drug and weapons related charges.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Nathan Thompson with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver oxycodone, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Reading from a probable cause affidavit from White Hall Police Investigator Clayton Cantrell, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said White Hall Officer Christian Carroll conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry driven by Thompson for a defective taillight and because Thompson was not wearing a seat belt.
She said when Carroll approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside it.
Carson said officers also found a container with suspected methamphetamine and a container containing three tablets believed to be oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. When Thompson was questioned, he allegedly admitted that he was a convicted felon and knew he was not supposed ot have the gun and said the suspected drugs were his.
He was previously convicted of a drug related offense in 2014.
Thompson was told to come back to court March 8 and said he would hire his own attorney.
