Two people were killed in a one-vehicle accident in Drew County Thursday night.
According to a preliminary report, Drew Anthony Thomas, 22, of Monticello and Talia Latrice Pirtle, 21, of Memphis were killed when the 2000 Toyota driven by Thomas, that was southbound on State Highway 35 left the roadway on the right side, entered a steep embankment, overturned on its top and landed in a deep ditch of water where it submerged on its top.
The accident was reported at 7:25 p.m. and the deaths bring to seven the number of people killed on the state’s highways so far this year.
