Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., said Tuesday that getting served with a copy of the lawsuit the City of Pine Bluff filed against Jefferson County over jail fees was “a total surprise,” because of the relationship his department has had with other law enforcement agencies, especially the City of Pine Bluff and the resources the sheriff’s department has contributed.

Woods told Deltaplex News that despite the lawsuit, the sharing of resources will continue.

He also said he hoped the issues between the city and county over the jail fees will be settled eventually.

He said the two sides had been meeting since 2019 so the city knew what the issues are.

Woods said that because of the pandemic, the jail is still not at full capacity.

He also talked about the shortage of jailers, and deputies in general.
