A new policy dealing with school choice has been approve by both the Woodlawn and Cleveland County School Districts and will go into effect Jan. 1.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, the Arkansas School Board Association policy will change how schools accept transfer student applications.
Under the previous policy, students wanting to transfer from one school to another had from Jan. 1 to May 1 to turn in their requests for the next school term and school boards would act on those applications during the May meeting.
Under the new policy, applications can be filed anytime between Jan. 1 and May 1 and the school district must act on that application within 15 days.
Once the applicant has been notified of their acceptance, they have 10 school days to respond whether they will to start immediately or wait until the next school year
If the applicant does not respond within 10 school days, the application is null and void.
