On Wednesday, Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) spoke to the 50th-anniversary celebration of the National Center of Toxicological Research (NCTR) in Jefferson, Arkansas. Westerman talked about the facility with Deltaplex News.

According to a news release, NCTR is the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) research facility located outside of Washington, D.C., and employs 670 people across 17 counties, contributing nearly $70 million to the state, local, and national economies.

NCTR was established on Aug. 11, 1971 by President Richard Nixon. This research facility promotes and protects public health and provided critical support to Arkansas during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Arkansas Delegation recently introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate to commemorate this 50th anniversary and recognize NCTR’s achievements.
