On Aug. 9, voters in the Watson Chapel School District will decide the fate of a millage increase to pay for the construction of a new high school for the district. On Thursday, Alan Frazier, a member of the Watson Chapel School Board, and Tom Wilson, the interim superintendent for the district joined Greg Horne on Oldies 1013 morning show and talked about the election.

Frazier said the state would provide more than 75 percent of the project costs.

Wilson was asked why the state was willing to kick in so much of the funding and answered this way.

If approved by voters, Frazier said the new high school would be built at the location of the current junior high.

Wilson said the construction plan calls for an 18-month period and it might be necessary to relocate some classes during the process.

Patrons in the Watson Chapel District for years have resisted the idea of consolidation of all the districts in Pine Bluff and Horne asked Frazier if a positive vote for the millage would mean patrons were willing to “put their money where their mouth is?”
