WCSD board approves district plans for upcoming school year; Hires Interim Superintendent

After holding a special meeting last week, the Watson Chapel School District board met for its official monthly meeting on Monday, July 11th to discuss a few topics on their agenda including the hiring of an interim superintendent. The board unanimously approved Tom Wilson to begin Monday, July 18th as a replacement until the position is fulfilled.

President Sandra Boone spoke with Deltaplex news about the process that led to the hire of Wilson and the application process for the permanent replacement.

Boone also mentioned that the board picked Wilson because of his experience, personal references, and he is what she described as “just a people person”.

On the subject of new business, the board reviewed and approved the audit report, school improvement plans, student handbook, code of conduct, recruitment and retention plan, comprehensive school counseling plan, and additional duties salary schedule for each district for use during the 2022-2023 school year.

Board member Alan Fraizer addressed the public during the board of communication and spoke about the upcoming election for the WCSD mileage increase that involves the construction of a new high school building.

Fraizer spoke to Deltaplex News and explained that early voting will take place at the courthouse and election day voting takes place on August 9th at the respective voting sites of the stakeholder’s ward.

Early voting dates will be announced once that information becomes available.
