The outgoing Superintendent of the Watson Chapel School District talked about his district’s Summer School programs and how they will prepare students for the next school year.

Jerry Guess, who will retire at the end of June, told Deltaplex News what the district is doing.

Guess said, unlike previous years when summer school was conducted immediately after the regular school year ended, this year an intensive summer program will be done right before the new school year starts in August.

“That way the kids can get prepared to begin the year, get a leg up”

Guess said a lot of the planning is driven by federal COVID stimulus money to help students catch up after learning mostly remotely for 18 months.
