The Watson Chapel School Board approved the use of Google Classroom for students that have been expelled in a special called meeting Thursday night.

The use of Google Classroom will allow the district to provide education for expelled students who commit infractions that do not allow them to attend in-person Alternative Learning (ALE) up until the 2023 spring semester.

Superintendent Tom Wilson spoke with Deltaplex News after the meeting saying that next year they will have to work with a co-op to provide in-person instruction.

He also said that the students that aren’t able to attend in-person classes through the co-op in the 2023-24 school year due to extreme infractions will simply have to be expelled under the new LEARNS Act.

Wilson said another thing the LEARNS Act will do is make teacher raises a performance based system, and the bar is going to be raised for teachers within the Watson Chapel district.

He also spoke about the raises teachers will get under the LEARNS Act, in addition to something he doesn’t like about what the Act will do to experienced teachers.
