Eddie Vedder performed the Pearl Jam song “Future Days” at Thursday’s Game Awards, which celebrate the best in video games.
“Future Days” is prominently featured in the game The Last of Us Part II, which takes place in a world overtaken by a mutant fungus that turns people into zombie-like creatures. In the game, the protagonist, Ellie, is taught how to play “Future Days” on guitar by her father figure, Joel.
Throughout the game, players can play guitars themselves using their game controller.
“I really appreciate the way [‘Future Days’] was used, especially bringing Joel and Ellie together, connecting through music,” Vedder said following his performance. “I thought maybe it was cool too that it made you wanna perhaps pick up a guitar yourself and play a song for your loved one.”

The Last of Us Part II also ended up winning the 2020 Game Award for Game of the Year.
