A small high school in southern Jefferson County made history nearly 50 years ago and a local Pine Bluff businessman is trying to keep the memories of that event alive.

David Beck of First Arkansas Insurance was a recent guest on the Oldies show and was asked about that school, Vaster, and the event.

Beck was accompanied by Homer Jackson, who played on the team, and he talked about that.

Jackson said the school was 14 to 15 miles from Pine Bluff and was a Class B school, meaning they didn’t play football.

The team played other small schools like Wabbaseka, Dumas, and Gould, as well as schools like Conway and Morrilton.

Beck was asked how he got involved with Vaster and the basketball program and answered this way.

He said a member of a Bible Study Fellowship group he is involved with went to Vaster and helped him find members of the team.

He was also asked what was planned to recognize the team and said this.
