UAPB Women’s Hoops Falls Late To Jackson State At Home

PINE BLUFF, AR —Zaay Green scored 19 points and Kaila Walker had 15 more, but the Lady Lions fell to the Jackson State Lady Tigers 69-55 at home Monday.

The Lady Lions (10-11, 6-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Green, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Walker added 15 points and four assists off the bench and Takaylyn Busby added six points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Shekinah Rachel pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for UAPB, grabbing 15 boards and turning them into 14 second chance points.

UAPB did a great job disrupting Jackson State shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Busby’s three rejections led the way individually for the Lady Lions.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 12-10.

UAPB then started off the second quarter by going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three from Busby, to take an 18-12 lead. The Lady Tigers cut into that lead, but the Lady Lions still enjoyed a 26-24 advantage heading into halftime. UAPB forced three Jackson State turnovers in the period and turned them into five points.

Jackson State then took a 44-37 lead following intermission before UAPB went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 44-42 with 1:03 to go in the third. Jackson State countered and stretched its lead to 47-42 heading into the fourth. UAPB turned four offensive rebounds into seven second chance points on the way to scoring 16 total points in the quarter.

Jackson State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 57-45 advantage before UAPB went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 57-51 with 4:30 to go in the contest. Jackson State responded and outscored the Lady Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 69-55.
