Trasity Totten

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Trasity Totten hit a buzzer-beating shot just prior to time expiring to tie the game at 66-66, but the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team fell in overtime to the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers 79-71 Tuesday.

The Lady Lions (2-16, 1-11 SWAC) had three players score in double figures, led by Totten, who had a career-high 23 points, six rebounds and three steals. Maya Peat had her second double-double of the season with career highs in points (15) and rebounds (13). Khadijah Brown scored 13 points along with six rebounds.

Trailing 64-56 with 1:09 remaining, a three-pointer by Tyler Pyburn cut the deficit to 64-59 with 45 seconds to play.

Following a free throw by PVAMU, a putback by Brown cut the deficit to 65-61 with 26 seconds to play. After another Panther free throw extended the lead to 66-61, Brown banked in a three-pointer from the right side to cut the margin to two at 66-64 with 12 seconds remaining.

The Panthers then missed a pair of free throws, giving the Golden Lions a final chance. After the ball was knocked out of bounds with less than two seconds to play, Totten got open on an inbounds play and scored off the glass with 0.8 remaining in regulation to force overtime.

However, PVAMU outscored UAPB 13-5 in the extra period for the final margin.

The Lady Lions return to action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Texas Southern. The UAPB Sports Network broadcast begins at 5:15 p.m. on 99.3 FM The Beat.
