UAPB Women’s Hoops Falls in Heartbreaker 63-60 to Tulsa On The Road

TULSA, OK — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 63-60 on the road Wednesday on a Tulsa 3-pointer with just one second left in the game.

The Lady Lions had three players score in double figures, led by D’Arrah Allen, who had 19 points. Kristyna Boyd tacked on 13 points and eight rebounds and Jazmyn Sostand chipped in as well with 11 points and two steals.

UAPB forced 15 Tulsa turnovers. The Lady Lions turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Jailah Pelly led the way individually with three steals.

After falling behind 12-9, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 1:36 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Allen, to take a 16-12 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. UAPB capitalized on six Tulsa turnovers in the period, turning them into four points on the other end of the floor.

UAPB kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 10-0 run starting at the 5:09 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Boyd, to increase its lead to 36-23. The Lady Lions proceeded to tack on four points to that lead and enjoyed a 42-25 advantage heading into halftime. UAPB was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 26 points.

After intermission, UAPB held on to its advantage and owned a 55-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter. UAPB turned three offensive rebounds into three second chance points on the way to scoring 13 total points in the quarter.

Tulsa then erased the UAPB lead in the game’s final quarter for a 63-60 comeback victory. UAPB fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its five points.
