UAPB Women’s Hoops Completes Regular Season Sweep Over Prairie View In Comeback Fashion 66-61

PINE BLUFF, AR —The UAPB women’s basketball team fought back from a 51-44 deficit after the third quarter to defeat the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers 66-61 at home Saturday.

The Lady Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Zaay Greeen , who secured a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Joyce Kennerson tacked on 15 points, four assists and three steals off of the bench and Sade’ Hudson added five points and eight assists.

UAPB utilized excellent ball movement in Saturday’s game, piling up 17 assists on 23 made field goals. Hudson’s eight assists were the most for the Lady Lions.

The UAPB defense did some damage in Saturday’s game, forcing 18 Prairie View A&M turnovers, turning those takeaways into seven points on the other end of the floor. Shekinah Rachel led the way individually for the Lady Lions with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-9, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 5:54 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Takalyn Busby, to take a 15-10 lead. The Lady Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-16 advantage. UAPB got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for five of its 20 total points.

Prairie View A&M rallied to take a 39-27 lead before UAPB went on a 5-0 run starting at the 58 seconds mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Kennerson, to narrow its deficit to 39-32, a score that would hold until halftime.

Prairie View A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 46-37 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 46-42 with 4:41 to go in the third. Prairie View A&M countered and stretched its lead to 51-44 heading into the fourth. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.

UAPB narrowed its deficit to 58-56 before going on a 7-0 run to seize a 63-58 lead with 42 seconds to go in the contest. The Lady Lions held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 66-61 win. UAPB got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 14 of its 22 total points.
