UAPB Women Win Holiday Basketball Tournament

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team brought home the title from the 2021 Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi over the weekend.

The Lady Lions took the first game of the tournament over host school Southern Mississippi winning 76-57. Four Lady Lions scored in double figures, led by Sade Hudson’s 21 points. Zaay Green added 17 points 9 rebounds and 6 assist, while Kadijah Brown posted a double double with 16 points and 10 boards followed by Joyce Kennerson’s 10 points and 2 steals. UAPB shot a season high 48.2% form the field in the win.

In the second match-up, UAPB defeated Southeast Missouri State 81-63 lead by Kennerson’s 20 point 3 steals performance. Tournament MVP Zaay Green had 19 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assist, and 3 steals against SEMO, while Hudson chipped in 17 points in the win.

Along with Green’s tournament MVP selection, Sade Hudson and Kadijah Brown were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Lions will have their season home opener on Monday, Nov. 29 against Arkansas Baptist College in H.O. Clemmons Arena with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the UAPB Sports Network on 99.3fm The Beat.
