UAPB Women Hoops Lady Lions Fall Short to Little Rock 60-56 On The Road

LITTLE ROCK, AR — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team went into the fourth quarter tied 43-43 with Little Rock, but could not take control and fell 60-56 to the Trojans on the road Thursday.

The Lady Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Coriah Beck, who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Jelissa Reese tacked on 10 points and two steals and Maori Davenport added five points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Led by Azaria Robinson’s three offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.

The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday’s game, forcing 16 Little Rock turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Reese’s two steals led the way individually for the Lady Lions.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 16-15.

The Lady Lions continued to stay close in the second quarter and faced a 34-32 halftime deficit.

Little Rock continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-34 advantage before UAPB went on a 9-0 run to tie things up at 43 at the end of the third quarter. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.

Little Rock then snagged a 58-50 advantage before UAPB responded by going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Kourtney Rittenberry’s three, to shrink the deficit to 58-55 with 37 seconds to go in the contest. Little Rock responded and nailed free throws down the stretch to control a lead over the Lady Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 60-56.
