UAPB Volleyball Sweep Alcorn State To Stay Perfect In Conference

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff captured up their third straight conference win, sweeping Alcorn State 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18).

It was smooth sailing for most of the match for the Lady Lions. Kori Diego led the team in kills with 10 kills and Zyonn Smith added eight kills to the total.

Defensively, Haley Gomez had a game-high five blocks to pace UAPB.

Nikole Akamine and Vanessa Collins combined for 32 of the team’s 36 assists with 18 and 14 assists, respectively.

Zykia Jones served the ball extremely well with five aces for the Lady Lions. Jones also led the team in digs with 13, followed by Smith and Nyah Ellis with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

“I make sure that everyone is playing their role on this team,” says head coach Chelsey Lucas after defeating Alcorn State. “It’s important that we all play our part because that’s what helps a good team become great. Understanding roles play a huge part in our victories.”
