UAPB Volleyball: Lady Lions Flirt With Conference Play; Sweep Mississippi Valley State In UNA Tournament

FLORENCE, AL – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-22, 25-22) over the SWAC foe Mississippi Valley State Friday at Flowers Hall.

The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Ariyonna Edmond, who registered 11 kills and 12 digs on the day. Zykia Jones also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Lyla Jones chipped in for with eight digs to go with one blocks from Edmond.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions grabbed control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and never trailed to win 25-13. UAPB opened up its biggest lead, 12 points, to finish off the set. UAPB also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | UAPB won set two 25-22 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Lady Lions grabbed control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and never trailed. UAPB led by as many as eight points at 20-12 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way.

SET 3 | UAPB closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure a 25-22 victory. UAPB opened up as much as a five point lead at 24-19 before closing out the set. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
