The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s volleyball team has earned the third seed heading into the SWAC Tournament to be held November 19-21 in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Lady Lions swept both Texas SWAC member institutions in straight sets earlier this week to secure the third seed in the upcoming tourney. UAPB defeated Texas Southern University on Sunday 25-11 and 25-16 in the final two sets. They would continue their dominance Monday, with a 25-9, 26-24, and 25-19 sweep of Prairie View A&M University, setting a program record for most home wins in a season going undefeated at 9-0.

Along with the record setting season, Haley Gomez finished the year as the Lady Lions all-time leader in blocks. The Eastvale, California native posted 85 of UAPB’s 222 blocks this year, the second most on the squad.

Head Coach Chelsea Lucas was proud of the Lady Lions’ performances this year, and thinks it has prepared them for tournament play. “…confidence, they’re going to believe in your system, they’re going to believe in they’re teammates, and they’re having fun.” said Lucas. ” Being a top seed, everyone is going to try to come here and be prepared to win. So being a top seed, we need to play that way.” Arkansas-Pine Bluff made to the finals a season ago, but were unable to compete do to a Covid-19 situation.

The Lady Lions will head to Huntsville Friday November 19th, when they face the #6 seed in the Southern University Jaguars at 4p.m. in the first round of the 2021 SWAC Volleyball Tournament.
