UAPB Volleyball Adds Nine To 2019 Signing Class


PINE BLUFF, Ark.,- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff  head volleyball coach Chelsey  Lucas announced the signing of nine players to her program.

Joining the Lady Lions this fall are Elyssa Kennedy, Savione Henry Usoro, Brie-Anna Armstrong, Delilah Cardenas, Kaila Robinson, Micayla Pope, Reagin Williams, Zyonn Smith, and Alexia Hattaway.
“This is a group of very talented student-athletes who love volleyball and we’re very excited to get started with them,” Lucas said of her first signing class.  “I’ve had the opportunity throughout this recruiting process to get to know them and put together a strong group of players. This incoming class will fill a lot of needs. These players are all hard-working, will be an asset to our program in conjunction with our returning players, and they’ll have a chance to contribute right away.

Incoming Transfers
Savione Henry Usoro (OH, 5’10, Phoenix, AZ/Phoenix College)
The outside hitter from Phoenix, Arizona, is a two-year starter for Phoenix College.  She averaged 1.48 kills per set, .144 hitting percentage, a total of 92 kills, 376 attacks, and 62 sets.

Delilah Cardenas (OH, 5’7, Elpaso, TX. / Feather River College)
Delilah comes to UAPB from Feather River College, where she played in 17 matches and 29 sets as an outside hitter.  She had a total of 20 kills, 23 digs and four aces.
In 2018 she led Feather River College to CCCAA State Championship Elite Eight appearance and an overall team record of 25-5.  Cardenas was also a 2018-19 Scholar Athlete Awardee, All-District Academic Volleyball Team, and named to the 2018 Dean’s list.

Brie-Anna Armstrong (OS/MB, 5’10, San Antonio, TX. /Blinn College)
A middle blocker transferring from Blinn College after playing in 2017 at South Dakota State and 2018 season with the Buccaneers.  She appeared in 33 games with a total of 134 kills, averaging 1.35 kills per set, .218 hitting percentage, a total of 66 digs, and averaging 0.67 digs per set.  Armstrong was named All-District First Team middle blocker, All-State Tournament Team and TAPPS 5A State Runner-Up in 2016-17.

Kaila Robinson (OH, 5’9, Richmond, VA/Virginia Commonwealth University)
From Skyview HS in Vancouver, Wash., Robinson was named MVP her junior year at Skyview.  She redshirted in 2017 at VCU.

Micayla Pope (S, 5’7, Desoto, TX. /Chowan University)
Pope was named to the 2018-19 second team All-Conference.  In 2017-18 named All-Tournament Team, second team All-Conference, and Team Captain.  In 2016-17 she was named second team All-Conference and led the team in assists with 767 total.

Alexia Hattaway (OH, 5’8, Commerce, TX. /Brookhaven College)
Hattaway spent two years as a middle blocker for Brookhaven.  During her final season at Brookhaven, she was selected as NCJAA Honorable Mention All-American, first team All-Region, and First Team All-Conference.  Her senior year at Wolfe City High School, she finished her senior season with 585 kills and a total of 1,384 in her career.  Hattaway also was a two-sport letterman in basketball where she was named All-State and Offensive MVP.

Incoming Freshman Class
Elyssa Kennedy (S, 5’6, Rowlett, TX. /Sachse HS)
Kennedy was a three-time district 10-6A Setter of the Year.  Led her team to a 39-7 overall record and 13-1 in conference play.  She holds the school record with 3,214 career assists, she was named to the 2018-17 Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches (TAVC) All-State Team, named Academic All-State, Academic All-District, Offensive Player of the Year in 2017-18, and Newcomer of the Year in 2016-17.

Reagin Williams (OH, 5’9, Arlington, TX. /Mansfield Timberview HS)
A four-year letterman at Timberview HS, Williams was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2018-19, with 678 kills.  Also was named First Team All-District in 2018-19 and Academic All-District in 2015-16.

Zyonn Smith (OH, 5’7, Fort Worth, TX. /Trimble Technical HS)
Smith led the Bulldogs to a District 7-A Championship.  She was named to the First Team All-District, as well as to the Brewer All-Tournament Team and Arlington Classic All-Tournament Team.  Smith averaged 3.77 kills per set, a 0.233 hitting percentage, 434 digs, and a total of 40 blocks and 13 assists.
