UAPB Track And Field secure Three Silver Medal Finishes at Sooner Invitational

NORMAN, OK – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s and women’s track and field teams competed for another weekend of competition on the road at the Sooner Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

Sensation Safiya John turned up the competition in the women’s long jump with some outstanding marks on the field, showing off her bunnies to kick off Eastern weekend. After a foul on her first jump, John knew her first fair jump had to turn her opponents’ heads and would do so, catapulting herself to 6.13 meters.

Looking to bring out more in her jumps, John’s consistent approach allowed her to extend her distance to 6.18 meters to secure a second-place finish.

On the men’s side, Stephen Lane continued to stay consistent and in rhythm in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, handling business in his lane. Advancing to the finals in second place with a time of 14.95 seconds, Lane would go on to stride to a silver medal in the final with an improved time of 14.90 seconds into a 1.2 headwind.

Giving the Golden Lions their third silver medal finish, Caleb Snowden would showcase his bunnies to lead in the men’s high jump. Clearing 2.00 meters with ease, Snowden fouled two attempts at 2.05 meters before clearing the height to move onto 2.10 meters.

Repeating the same sequence from the previous height, Snowden found a way to spring his way over the 2.10-meter bar to secure a second-place finish.

“It’s all about getting better and staying consistent on the track to reach the next level,” said UAPB head coach Christopher McCoy about the team’s performance.

The Golden Lions will continue their outdoor season circuit next weekend up the road in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the Red Wolves Invitational, held at Arkansas State.
