UAPB Track and Field Finished Strong at Memphis Invitational
On the women’s side in the field events, Keziann Jones placed eighth in the shot put competition with a distance of 46’1 ¼ followed by Joelle Stewart in ninth with a distance of 44’3 ½ . In the women’s discus throw Sabrina Hollins finished fifth with a mark of 146’3.
In the women’s 100m hurdles the Lady Lions had two freshmen student-athletes to place in the top-10 with Safiya John crossing the finish line in second place with a time of 13.89 and Jyzmin Gray in sixth place with a time of 14.16.
Gray also placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.63 and Arjai Johnson finished sixth with a time of 1:06.29.
In the 4×400 relay, the Lady Lions finished fifth with a time of 3:59.88.
On the men’s side, senior Travis Bibbs continued to leave his mark, by winning the triple jump with a leap of 51’6 ½ and Shevon Phipps finished sixth with a leap of 42’7″. Phipps also placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 6’7″.
Miles Dortch placed ninth in the men’s discus throw with a distance of 148’3″.
The Golden Lions continued to dominate the 800 meters competition, claiming three spots in the top-10. Wade Garner took gold with a time of 1:52.53, followed by Laural Heath in third with a time of 1:53.42 and Romario Marshall in ninth with a time of 1:55.68.
Rodney Griffin placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.26.
The men’s 4×400 meter relay A team finished second with a time of 3:13.90, followed by the B team in fourth with a time of 3:21.99.
UAPB will take a break for finals before competing at the SWAC Outdoor Championship hosted by Prairie View on Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5.
