UAPB Softball Splits Two Games In Lincoln Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Kirsten Schmidt turned in an historic performance on Monday, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 10 to lead the UAPB Lady Lions over the Harris-Stowe Hornets 32-0.

Schmidt added her first win of the season to her outstanding performance, striking out 10 for UAPB.

Samaria Jackson led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame with two triples and four RBIs. Zharia Richardson compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Desiree Bumpers also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for UAPB with a triple and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. UAPB’s offense started clicking and put up 11 runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Jackson.

The Lady Lions also added runs in the second, third, and fourth innings on the way to the 32-0 victory.

The Lady Lions were not able to score a run against Lincoln and fell in their second game 3-0.

Sydney Green got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits, allowing three walks and striking out 14.

In the batter’s box, the Lady Lions were paced by Alyssa Wesley, who went 2-for-3 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the sixth, when Wesley made it into scoring position with one out.
