UAPB Softball Snaps Seven Game Losing Streak; Split with Central Baptist

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s softball team ended their seven game losing streak with a game one win over Central Baptist College Tuesday at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex. Zharia Richardson had 2 RBI’s including a sacrifice fly scoring Enecia Sykes in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the Lady Lion’s 3-2 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

Richardson posted her first RBI in the bottom of the opening frame with a single scoring Alyssa Wesley to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs would answer, scoring a run in both the 5th and 6th innings to take a 2-1 lead. Amari Broughton would reach on an error by the second baseman, allowing Desiree Bumpers to cross the plate, tying the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, Richardson would lift a fly ball into the outfield, allowing Sykes to score the game winning run.

Sydney Green held the Mustangs at bay, striking out 8 batters, while only giving up 5 hits in the complete game appearance. Natalie Rogers lead the way at the plate for UAPB, going 2 for 3, followed by Layla Stouder who was 2 for 4. Wesley also went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

In game two, the bats went silent for the Lady Lions, as they were only able to gather 2 hits in the 7-0 routing by CBC. Sydney Green and Kaitlyn Neely had a hit each in the loss.
