UAPB Softball Green Tosses 14 K’s In Win Over Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Junior Sydney Green dominated on Friday, fanning 14 Prairie View A&M hitters over 10 innings of work to help lead the Lady Lions over the Lady Panthers 8-7 in the final game of the series.

Junior Samaria Jackson led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Junior Zharia Richardson provided a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Kaitlyn Neely also chipped in for UAPB with a double and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Jackson put UAPB on the board with a two-out solo home run.

The Lady Lions lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 3-1. The UAPB offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Richardson and a two-run double from Neely, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 5-3.

Prairie View A&M narrowed UAPB’s lead to 5-4 before the Lady Lions stretched the advantage to 7-4 in the sixth inning. The Lady Lions scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Alyssa Wesley’s single.

The Lady Panthers then evened up the ballgame at seven before UAPB fought back to retake their advantage in the tenth inning. The Lady Lions scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Richardson, bringing the UAPB advantage to 8-7. The score remained 8-7 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Lions held on for the win.
