UAPB Softball Drops Doubleheader to Texas Southern

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped a pair of games to Texas Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex. The Lady Tigers held on to win the first game 7-5 and battled back from an early deficit to win the nightcap 4-1 to remain unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Game 1 – Texas Southern 7 UAPB 5: The Lady Lions found themselves in a 7-0 deficit after five innings before storming back.  UAPB scored three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI-single from Dominique Humphrey, and were within 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning after Natalie Rogers scored on Shanice Akins’ two-out single.  But Ann Jones flied out in the next at-bat to end the game and give Texas Southern the victory.

Rogers had two of UAPB’s five hits while Alexandria Taylor walked three walks.

Game 2 – Texas Southern 4 UAPB 1: The Lady Lions jumped out quickly in the nightcap and took a 1-0 lead on Kameron Graham’s RBI-single, but Texas Southern scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, sparked by run-scoring hits from Paige Jackson and Haley Castro, to pull out the win.

Graham had two hits to lead UAPB, which will return to action Tuesday at Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m.
