UAPB Softball Drops Conference Series to Prairie View

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas – The UAPB Lady Lions took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 8-3 to the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers Thursday.

Junior Sydney Green started and took the loss in the circle for UAPB.

Senior Alyssa Wesley led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple. Sophomore Samaria Jackson put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Desiree Bumpers also contributed, going 1-for-3 for UAPB with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. UAPB got on the board thanks to Bumpers’ RBI double.

The Lady Lions kept the Lady Panthers off the board before taking the lead in the fifth. UAPB put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Jackson, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 3-2. The Lady Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Prairie View A&M scored six times over the remaining two innings to grab the 8-3 win.

The UAPB Lady Lions took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 5-3 to the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers Saturday.

Sophomore Paola Rodriguez got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss.

Sophomore Laya Strouder led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Junior Sydney Green put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Freshman Marissa Bracey also contributed, going 1-for-2 for UAPB with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. UAPB got an RBI single from Green, scoring Bracey from third base.

The Lady Panthers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Lady Lions got back on the scoreboard. UAPB plated two runs off of Prairie View A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Strouder, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 3-2. The Lady Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Prairie View A&M scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 5-3 win.

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —The UAPB Lady Lions put together a valiant performance in game two , but ultimately came up short, falling to the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers by the score of 6-4.

Green started and took the loss in the circle for UAPB.

Freshman Amari Broughton led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double. Stouder put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rodriguez also contributed, going 1-for-3 for UAPB with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the first inning. Broughton came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB and get them on the board.

The Lady Lions deficit expanded to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. UAPB scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Rodriguez, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Lady Panthers. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as Prairie View A&M added one run to their tally on the way to a 6-4 final.
