UAPB Soccer Tops Lyon College For The Shutout At Home

PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team scored three goals on its way to a 3-0 shutout win over Lyon College on Wednesday evening at Pumphrey Soccer Complex. The Lady Lions continue non-conference play on Sunday, September 4, in Florence, Alabama, with a 1 p.m. kickoff against North Alabama.

Sophomore Natalie Freeman scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute as she raced to the far post for a hard strike in the net, with the assist from freshman Denisse Quintanilla to give UAPB a 1-0 lead before the half.

With 15 minutes passed in the second half, Freeman scored her second goal of the game after a pair of passes from freshman Ashley McGuire and sophomore Iyanah Hicks to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead at the 59th-minute mark.

Sophomore Madison Hernandez got in on the action, scoring her first goal of the season in the 84th minute to seal the win for UAPB.

UAPB tallied a season-high 41 shots, including 23 on goals, holding the Fighting Scots to no shots.

Sophomore Taylor Schumacher and freshman Makaila Riedel split the 90 minutes at goalkeeper to combine for the shutout.
