UAPB SOCCER Tops Lyon College For Back to Back Road Wins
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team won their second consecutive road game, defeating Lyons College 5-0 Saturday evening at J. Marshall Huser Field.
The Lady Lions dominated possession of the ball the entire game. UAPB got off 18 shots in the first half compared to Lyons College two. It was not much different in the second half as the Lady Lions outshot the Scots 19-4.
Freshman Natalie Freeman got UAPB on the board first with Madison Hernandez’s assistance to give the Lady Lions (1-0) at the 3:12 mark.
Down the stretch, freshman Iyannah Hicks drilled a shot from the bottom right-hand corner with an assist by sophomore Evangelia Sandoval-Belmudez in the 47:12 mark to give UAPB a 2-0 lead. A minute later, Freeman responded with a scramble in the box at the 43:59 mark to give UAPB a 3-0 lead before intermission.
In the second half, UAPB continued to work as a team as Erin Fite scored two consecutive goals in the 58th and 86th mark to give the Lady Lions a 5-0 win.
Freeman and Fite led UAPB on the offensive side with two goals, follow by Hick with one.
“The number one thing that I am proud of after this win is that we played with only 14 players due to COVID issues, we were able to secure a win and a shutout to meet our objective which was to win and control the play of the game,” said Head Coach Erik Solberg.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on September 10th against Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark.
