UAPB Soccer: Freeman Named SWAC Preseason Player of the Year & Lepe Named Second-Team

PRESEASON HONORS SOCCER 22

PINE BLUFF, AR. – After having an outstanding year last season as a true freshman, Natalie Freeman has been chosen as the 2022 SWAC Preseason Player of the Year as voted by the SWAC coaches and SIDs, Thursday. Senior Alondra Lepe joined Freeman on the Preseason All-Conference team, while the Lady Lions opened up their first practice last week with a promising talented class.

Freeman finished tied for second in the conference in goals (10). She also finished third in shots on goal (25), sixth in shots average (2.16), tied for second in the league in points (23), and eighth in assists (3). Freeman played a significant role as a freshman to help the Lady Lions finish the season in second place in point average (4.84), first place in goals (36), and second place in assists (20).

Freeman led the SWAC with the highest number of goals scored in a single game (4).

Alondra Lepe, a strong leader on the field for UAPB, helped the Lady Lions to five shutouts on the year. Finished the season started in 18 out of 19 games with 1438 minutes, four shots, four shots on goal, and one goal.

The Lady Lions are set to kick off the 2022 season on Aug. 18 when they travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to face Arkansas St., before opening up at home on Aug. 22 against Central Baptist College.
