UAPB Soccer Dominates Jarvis Christian

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions shut out Jarvis Christian offensively to capture an explosive first home win 11-0 at Pumphrey Stadium. The Lady Lions found their tempo early in the game which led to their third non-conference win of the season (3-4 overall).

To kick off the first half of the game, both teams were building their momentum with great defensive performances on both sides of the ball before freshman Jackie Stokes scored the first goal of the game at the 17:51 mark with an assist from freshman Natalie Freeman (1-0). After a kickoff for Jarvis Christian, Freeman scored another goal at the 18:47 mark after an assist from Erin Fite to give UAPB a 2-0 lead.

UAPB kept the momentum going as Kaitlyn Hapke scored her first goal of the season with an assist by Fite at the 25:33 mark tallying the score to 3-0. Fite increased the Lady Lion’s lead to 4-0 after a low-right goal kick before intermission.

To start the second half, UAPB quickly got the offense going near the 50-minute mark leading to another goal from Freeman (5-0). Shortly after, Cameron Rodriguez scored her first goal of the season after an assist from Fite to extend the lead to 6-0 over the Bulldogs. Stokes scored her third goal of the game with the assist of Freeman to increase the game score to a 7-0 lead.

Late in the game, the Lady Lions continued to dominate the game offensively as Freeman scored two more goals with one assisted by Stokes (9-0). At the 79:31 mark, Freeman scored a low-right goal after an assist down the stretch from Rodriguez (10-0). To end the game, Evangelia Sandoval-Belmudez gained her first goal of the season to stamp the 11-0 victory over Jarvis Christian.

“I thought it was a big win for us, especially after Friday night’s game we were able to bounce back and conquer our goal to shutout the other team,” said head coach Erik Solberg.

UAPB had very impressive performances from multiple athletes, but they were led by Freeman, who had 11 shots, five shots at the goal, and four goals. Stokes led closely behind with nine shots, three shots at the goal, and three goals for the game. For the Bulldogs, goalkeeper Hailey Rivera led the team with six saves.

“For us to come back after a loss and show the character that we did, I thought our overall performance was great,” said Coach Solberg.

The Lady Lions will be back in play at home to compete against William Baptist on September 14th at 3 pm in Pumphrey Stadium.
