CONWAY, AR – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s soccer team conquered their first win of the season over Central Baptist with a final score of 10-0.

Looking to snap their three-game losing streak, the Lady Lions wasted no time in the first half against the Lady Mustangs.

Freshman Erin Fite got the Lady Lions on the board first at the six-minute mark with freshman Natalie Freeman getting on the board as well, gaining an early lead of 2-0 for the Lady Lions early in the first half.

Freshman Jackie Stokes displayed the beauty of the corner kick, assisting First Team All-SWAC freshman Iyanah Hicks to open the deficit to 3-0.

Not only would Hicks score goals for the Lady Lions, but she would also get her teammates involved. From another corner kick by Stokes, Hicks assisted freshman Madison Hernandez to score her first goal of the season to give UAPB a four-point lead over Central Baptist.

Showing gratitude for Hicks’ assist that lead to her goal, Hernandez made sure to return the favor doing the same for Hicks in the next two minutes, with Hicks scoring her second goal and ending the half with a 5-0 lead.

Continuing to be selfless on the field, Hicks would assist Freeman in scoring two goals within three minutes of each other, giving the Lady Lions a seven-point lead to begin the second half.

At the 60-minute mark, Stokes scored her first goal to give the Lady Lions an eight-point lead.

Just moments after, Hicks would score her third goal of the game and sophomore Alondra Lepe would seal the victory over Central Baptist, scoring the tenth and final goal from a Fite assist.

“I am proud of them”, said UAPB head coach Erik Solberg about his team after their first win of the season. “I thought we played very well, and I am pleased with how we not only scored ten goals which is hard to do but also how we kept our opponent from scoring as well.”

The Lady Lions will return to action at home to take on Arkansas State on Thursday at 4 pm. The game will kick off at Pumphrey Stadium where the Lady Lions will look to keep up the momentum.
