The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff presented Melvin Hines as the new Golden Lion Director of Athletics. Hines, a former wide receiver at Auburn University, started as a graduate assistant in 1997 at the University of Louisville where he earned a Master of Science in Education degree with a concentration in Sports Administration. The Huntsville Alabama native returned home to coach receivers at Alabama A & M University in 1998 before moving to the administrative side of collegiate sports. While at Alabama A & M, Hines implemented the CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes’ Minds for Academic Success) Life Skills Program and served as the Judicial Affairs Officer.

Hines served as the Director of Student-Athlete Services at Troy University from 2005-06 before relocating to the University of Minnesota. He served as the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at Ole Miss from 2008-10 before returning to his home state as Senior Associate Athletic Director

for the Alabama State Hornets. He was promoted to Interim Director of Athletics during the 2012 season eventually being hired as Director of Athletics in September of 2015.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD), Minority Opportunity Athletic Association (MOAA) and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). Hines, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., is married to Landy, and the couple has three children, sons DeAndre (25) and Tyler (21), and daughter Madison (13).
