UAPB MEN’S HOOPS: Vuga and Lewis Have Double-Doubles in Golden Lions 99-57 Victory Over Champion Christian
PINE BLUFF, AR —Klemen Vulga and Robert Lewis each recorded double-doubles to help lead the UAPB men’s basketball team over the 99-57 at home Wednesday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Golden Lions (1-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Vuga, who put together a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Christian Moore tacked on 20 points, four assists and three steals and Quentin Bolton Jr. helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.
UAPB forced 18 turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Wednesday’s game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Lewis’ three steals led the way for UAPB.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 25-17 advantage, UAPB went on an 8-0 run with 8:15 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dante Sawyer, to increase its lead to 33-17. The Golden Lions then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 52-29 advantage. UAPB did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 34 of its 52 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 87-55 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Dennis Asoro’s layup, to grow the lead to 94-55 with 2:38 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 99-57 win. UAPB took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 47 points in the lane.
