NEW ORLEANS, LA – The past two weeks have been filled with positives for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team, adding a new milestone.

Following the news of Shawn Williams being selected to participate in the HBCU All-Star Game, Dequan Morris will join Williams in New Orleans to compete in the 3x3U National Championship.

Averaging 14.7 points per game for the Golden Lions to knock down 50 percent of his shots, about half of Morris’ points came from the paint, where he’s an absolute threat with his athleticism and deadly midrange jumper that he put in lots of work on.

Morris’ one-on-one game has also been phenomenal for the Golden Lions, making him one of the most explosive players in the SWAC and the nation, allowing him to get to his hotspots easier.

“Dequan is the true definition of a sponge,” said UAPB head coach Solomon Bozeman about Morris’ abilities on the court. “He absorbs information quickly, processes it, then attacks accordingly. He is a self-made player of his own accord, and because of that, he is more than deserving of this accomplishment.”

Morris posted more than 18 double-digit games in the 2021-22 season with a season-high of 23 points in a win over Ecclesia College.

“I’m ecstatic about Dequan making the 3-on-3 National Championship,” said Bozeman about Morris’ success. “It was a pleasure to watch his growth and development this year.”

Morris will have the opportunity to sign his first professional contract and compete for a share of $150,000.

The 3x3U National Championship will take place during Final Four Weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana.
