UAPB Men’s Hoops: Golden Lions Shoots 62.5 Percent From Deep in 120-61 Win Over Ecclesia College
PINE BLUFF, AR —Led by a 62.5 percent shooting performance from three-point range, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team knocked off the Ecclesia Lions 120-61 at home Tuesday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Golden Lions had seven players score in double figures, led by Dennis Asoro, who had 16 points. Kyle Brown tacked on 15 points and six rebounds off the bench and Zach Reinhart chipped in as well with 15 points off the bench.
UAPB utilized great ball movement in Tuesday’s game, piling up 41 assists on 47 made field goals. Christian Moore’s 13 assists were the most for the Golden Lions.
UAPB forced 13 turnovers while committing only eight themselves in Tuesday’s game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Dante Saawyer led the way individually with three steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 45-24 advantage, UAPB went on an 11-0 run with 5:05 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Moore, to increase its lead to 56-24. The Golden Lions then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 66-28 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down 11 shots to account for 33 of its 66 points.
UAPB started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Asoro’s layup, to grow the lead to 74-28 with 17:40 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 120-61 win. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 54 points.
