UAPB MEN’S HOOPS: Golden Lions Fall to UL Monroe
Monroe, Louisiana- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball offense put on a ball-movement clinic on the road Wednesday, notching 17 assists on 28 made shots, but the Golden Lions fell to the UL Monroe Warhawks 89-73.
The Golden Lions had four players score in double figures, led by Caleb Jones, who had 14 points, four assists and six steals. Dante Sawyer added 14 points and Kyle Brown chipped in as well with 12 points from the bench.
UAPB utilized fantastic ball movement in Wednesday’s game, piling up 17 assists on 28 made field goals. Jones’ four assists paced the Golden Lions.
The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Wednesday’s game, forcing 18 UL Monroe turnovers while committing 15. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Jones’ six steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.
How It Happened
After falling behind 20-19, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 10:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jones, to take a 26-20 lead. The Golden Lions then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-37.
UL Monroe kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-47 advantage before UAPB went on a 12-0 run, finished off by Sawyer’s layup, to seize a 59-58 lead with 12:27 to go in the contest. UL Monroe re-asserted control, outscoring the Golden Lions 31-14 the rest of the way to hand UAPB the 89-73 loss. UAPB took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 36 points in the lane.
