UAPB MEN’S HOOPS: Bolton Jr. and Jones Lead Golden Lions Past Central Arkansas 84-78

PINE BLUFF, AR —Quentin Bolton Jr. scored 22 points and Caleb Jones added 20 and the UAPB men’s basketball team knocked off the Central Arkansas Bears 84-78 at home Saturday the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Golden Lions (2-8) had four players score in double figures, led by Bolton Jr., who had 22 points. Jones added 20 points and Raphael Dumont chipped in as well with 18 points and seven rebounds.

The UAPB offense made hay from downtown, making 15 threes on 32 attempts. Jones hit six treys for the Golden Lions in the contest.

UAPB’s defense held Central Arkansas to only 36.6 percent shooting from the field, including 24.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Lions also limited Elias Cato to 4-of-14 shooting in the game.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 21-19 advantage, UAPB went on an 11-0 run with 6:13 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bolton Jr., to increase its lead to 32-19. The Golden Lions then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-30 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down 10 shots to account for 30 of its 46 points.

UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 71-62 with 6:09 to go in the contest. The Bears narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still cruised the rest of the way for the 84-78 win.
