UAPB Men Hoops: Greene, Doss Jr. Lead UAPB Over Arkansas Baptist College

PINE BLUFF, AR —Chris Greene scored 25 points and Shaun Doss Jr. added 15 more, combining to score 40 of UAPB’s 59 total points as the Golden Lions knocked off Arkansas Baptist College 59-41 at home in the first annual father and son match up.

Greene led the Golden Lions with 25 points. Doss Jr. added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Kylen Milton chipped in as well with eight points and two steals from the bench.

UAPB’s defense held to only 19.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 30.2 percent from the field. The did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with four offensive rebounds and managed zero second chance points while UAPB cleared 34 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After playing to a 13-13 tie, UAPB went on a 9-0 run with 8:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Doss Jr., to take a 22-13 lead. The Golden Lions then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 35-19 advantage. UAPB got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for nine of its 35 total points.

UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Greene’s jumper, to grow the lead to 52-33 with 6:47 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still cruised the rest of the way for the 59-41 win. UAPB capitalized on 11 turnovers in the period, collecting seven points off those turnovers.
