UAPB Golf Inks Three for 2022-23 Season

PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s golf head coach, Roger Totten, is excited to announce the signing of three high-level student athletes to the roster that will be joining the team in the fall of 2022.  Angel Perez (Murcia, Spain), Isamel Garcia (Leon, Mexico), and Li Su (Sydenham, Australia) all make up the incoming class for the Golden Lions.

“I am excited about this recruiting class, Totten said. “All three student-athletes are talented golfers, but their character is what I like most about them.  Angel Perez, Isamel Garcia, and Li Su, will all be great additions to the program.”

The golf program is coming off a great season, placing second in the SWAC Fall Invitational, second in the SWAC Men’s Spring Championship, and finished ranked the top-three HBCU Golf program in the country.

Su, who was named Northeast (NE10) First-Team All-Conference and Rookie of the Year, had a strong freshman campaign, which included him representing AIC and the NE10 at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional while competing as an individual.

  • He tied for 24th among the Regional’s best golfers, shooting a +7 (223) over three rounds.
  • Su also tied for 24th at the NE10 Championship with a +13 (153).
  • He becomes the first AIC golfer to win Rookie of the Year since 2009-10.

“Su is a proven winner on the national level and has incredible natural ability,” Totten said. He’s played in conference tournaments and stood out as a freshman in the NE10 Conference Championship.”

Isamael Garcia | 5-9 |Leon, Mexico

Another top-tier prospect across the board, Garcia is set to join the Golden Lions class from Mexico.

  • First Place at “Holiday Classic at Orange County National” with a score of 72-67 (-5)
  • First Place at “2021 PGA National Holiday Open” with a score of 71-74 (+1)
  • Second Place at “Medalist – Indian Spring CC” with a score of 70-73 (-1)
  • First Place at “Medalist – Point West CC” with a score of 71-74 (+1)
    During this season I was available to achieve 5 wins, 2 top 3’s, 1 top 5, and 2 top-10.

“Garcia have proven that he can compete and work at the elite level that is necessary to help us compete for a conference championship and advance to the NCAA,” said Totten.  He’s capable of helping us achieve our season goals, as well as fit very well in the culture of our program.”

  • Second Place Puntuable Zonal U14
  • Youngest ever to win the Murcia Championship, at 15 years old
  • Fifth in 2021 Canarias Championship, final round of 2 under 70
  • Second Place 2022 Alicante Championship, final round of 1 under 71, 1-shot away from the winner
  • Second Place 2021 and 2022 Spanish National Team Championship Division II, losing in finals
  • Fifth Place Spanish National Championship U12
  • Fifth Place Spanish National Championship U14, final round of 3 under 70 (Both playing in the final group)
  • Top-15 in 2021 Baleares Cup
  • Top -11 in 2022 Spanish National Championship U18
  • Made the BLUME National Team (2020-2022)
