UAPB Golf Heads To PGA Works Collegiate Championship

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff golf team will return to the course and make their debut when the men’s program participates in the 2021 PGA Works Collegiate Championship May 1-5.  The tournament will occur at the famous site of the PGA Tour’s flagship event, the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verdra Beach, FL.

The Golden Lions will compete in the men’s Division I team division.

“I’m thrilled to be invited to this tournament base on the way we played this season,” said UAPB head coach Roger Totten. “Our student-athletes are excited as well to play on a course that some of the best in the world played on like Tiger Woods and others.

The Golden Lions are coming off a third-place finish in the SWAC Conference Championship last weekend held in Alexandria, Louisiana.  The Golden Lions had three student-athletes named to the All-Conference Team (Joshua McCray were named to the first team, followed by Grayson Martin and Nikolas Pitiris named to the second team.  Coach Totten was awarded his second Coach of the Year award in three years with the program.

“Even though we didn’t win the conference championship, I’m more please with the performance in the classroom, said Coach Totten.  We finished the semester with the highest GPA on campus, a 3.68 and three student-athletes on schedule to graduate this spring.”

The 54-hole PGA Works National Collegiate Championship is a stroke-play event contested across five divisions: NCAA Men’s Division I, Men’s Division II, and overall Women’s Division (team), Men’s Individual, and Women’s Individual.

PGA Reach, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America, announced the field for the 2021 PWCC.

UAPB is one of 24 teams that were invited to this year’s event representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) from all over the country.  The teams participating include:
