UAPB Football Fall To Alcorn St. In Conference Opener

LORMAN, Mississippi —Alcorn State rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat UAPB 38-21 on Saturday night.

The Braves improved to 2-2 on the year and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Lions  fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference matchups.

Kayvon Britten totaled 93 yards to lead the UAPB ground attack and added two touchdowns in the game, picking up 4.9 yards per carry along the way. Skyler Perry also tacked on 34 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Chrysten Cochran reeled in six catches for 67 yards.

Kyre Williams showed out for the UAPB defense, totaling seven tackles and one recovered fumble.

Both teams forced one turnover in Saturday’s contest, with UAPB turning that takeaway into seven points.

Defensively, UAPB did an excellent job restricting the Alcorn St. passing attack, holding the Braves to 98 yards through the air. In part because of that stellar defense, UAPB receivers out-gained their Alcorn St.  counterparts 108-84.

How It Happened

UAPB responded to a 7-0 lead from Alcorn St. with a score to tie the game at 7-7 with 7:08 left in the first quarter. The Golden Lions proceeded to bust up the 7-7 tie with a three-yard rushing touchdown from , making the score 14-7.

Alcorn St. then scored to make it a 14-10 game, but UAPB responded with 9:35 remaining in the third quarter to increase its lead to 21-10. UAPB didn’t score again in the game and Alcorn St. tacked on 28 more points to finish off the game.
