UAPB Football: 7 Different Players Score Touchdowns in Golden Lions 73-0 win over Arkansas Baptist College
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —Seven different players reached the end zone, led by three scores from Oshawn Ross, as UAPB easily defeated Arkansas Baptist College 73-0 on Saturday night at Simmons Bank Field.
The win improved UAPB’s record to 1-1 on the season while the Buffaloes fell to 0-1.
Mekhi Hagens led UAPB’s passing attack with 350 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Ross paced the Golden Lions rushing attack by accumulating 100 yards and three touchdowns over the course of the game, averaging 20 yards per carry. Za’Marion Webber also added 60 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. Johness Davis chipped in with 55 yards and two touchdowns as well, averaging 11 yards per carry.
Javonnie Gibson reeled in six catches for 172 yards and one score. Aramoni Rhone got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 75 yards. The Golden Lions also got 64 yards receiving and one touchdown from Donovan Giles in the contest.
Webber led the UAPB defensive effort, collecting two interceptions. Shawn Wilson added three tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble and Liam Lindo had one interception in the win.
The Golden Lions won the turnover battle in Saturday’s game, forcing six turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with UAPB turning those takeaways into 35 points. UAPB also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 670 total yards, 320 on the ground and 350 through the air, while averaging 11.6 yards per play and out-gaining . UAPB converted on 57.1 percent of third-down attempts on the day.
UAPB’s defense limited ‘s offense, giving up 161 total yards. The Golden Lions kept under 100 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing only 82 passing and 79 rushing yards. The Golden Lions defense disrupted the passing game on the way to pulling down four interceptions and breaking up five passes.
